Nature and Schakerloo Scherpenisse Polder

Directly adjacent to the nature Schakerloo Strien lies one kilometer and the other is natural Scherpenisse polder. The richness of these areas is illustrated by the following report about Belgian birders:

Birds everywhere! We find two Golden Plovers in summer plumage. In the resting pond hundreds of Lapwings and a lot more hundreds Wulpen. In between are another 70 or so a pair of avocets and Mountain Ducks. In the grass, we find five Yellow Wagtails. There are also some common terns, some in juvenile plumage, and a clump of grass are two more young Common Tern chicks on the nest. In the group we find with some searching four Black Terns in juvenile plumage. A dozen bar-tailed godwits come here on parties': rest and wait for the next low tide. We delve further and observations accumulate: Starling in brand new shiny feathers, two kestrels, a female Marsh Harrier, Common Sandpiper, two Ruffs, Redshank, a Curlew Sandpiper, a group of nine Barnacle Geese, a group of Nile Geese, some Snipes, Wild Ducks, Herring, Reed Bunting, House Sparrow, and finally two Pigeon Hole around the nearby farm.

The report and it was this enthusiasm does not stop here.
